01 Spoken by 150+ million people. Two forms exist (Colloquial and Classical). It is written from left to right. The first mention of chess in Arabic occurred in 720 AD, in romantic poems by Kataiyira Azzata and al-Farazdaq. During this period the Arabicized name of the Persian Chatrang became Shatranj.
