A movement or advance all the way through and
beyond a defensive position into the areas in the rear of your opponent. Any developing
move which removes a barrier to progress.
An attack on your opponent’s position usually
involving a sacrifice of a MP/mp. A combination of moves entailing the sacrifice of MPs or mps with the object of breaking through your opponent’s defense.
The breaching of an apparently secure formation, often
with sacrifice of material, as in the Pillsbury-Lasker
game in the French
Defence [link]. When a player is able to penetrate
directly into the camp of the opponent.
Penetrating the enemy’s
position, whether by a ‘PA break’ or the sacrifice of pieces or PAs.
