a
Bridge: links this side with
the other side. There is an interesting
half-bridge in the Grail legend. The symbolic significance
of the differentiation of sky and Earth as illustrating both the separation and
connection between the human and spirit worlds. Archaic myths worldwide speak of an
extremely close proximity that existed primordially between Heaven and
Earth. In illo
tempore, the gods came down to Earth and
mingled with men and men, for their part, could go up to Heaven by climbing a
mountain, tree creeper or ladder, or might even be taken up
by birds. Folk wisdom recommends that one should not cross a bridge until one comes to
it. Symbol of contact
and mediation (often in the form of a rainbow).

When Heaven was abruptly separated from Earth, when the tree of the
Liana connecting Earth to Heaven was cut, or the mountain which used to touch
the sky was flattened out - then the paradisiac stage
was over and humans entered into their present condition. Only special members of every culture, like shamans, could continue to move between Heaven and
Earth, between humans and the spirit world.
He or she is initiated into a non-ordinary state of being which results,
ultimately, in a reintegration of the self, an immersion or entrenchment into
states and/or knowledge not previously
accessible. Through the strangely
sharpened senses of the Shaman the sacred manifests itself. The initiate hones h/er
new sensibilities in the service of wisdom that can be used by h/er people. One
momentary lightning flash of Brahmic splendour (intellectual
illumination) gives the initiate an aftertaste of Heaven. These mystical flashes result in a spiritual rebirth. The mystic or shaman makes a pilgrimage and
receives a new dimension of experience or knowledge. The unexplainable presence of disks (UFO’s) in the symbology
of various civilizations - the Phoenicians and early Christians, for instance,
associated them with communications between angels and God. Because
these sightings are irreconcilable with western scientific knowledge, a logical
vacuum has been created that human imagination tries to fill with fantasy.
