Camel - Standard Bearer
01 The SB (Standard Bearer) is the Chesmayne
equivalent for this MP. The SB moves in a 3 x 1 manner just
like the traditional KT. Used on the 10 x 10 and larger boards.
‘A camel is a
horse designed by a committee’.

02 The one-humped camel, or
dromedary. There is also the draught animal (Bible: KIs) and the racing camel (Isaiah). Mohammed had a camel called ‘Al
Kaswa’. The mosque at Koba marks the
spot where the camel knelt (considered a sign sent from God). North Africa:
symbol of sobriety, willfulness and arrogance. Christianity: symbol of humility and
obedience. This name is used for the BS in Mongolia and Tibet. A
camel carried Rebekah to her wedding feast with Isaac as mentioned in Genesis
24:64.

The Camel is a piece that dates back at least to Tamerlane Chess. The piece is used
in many more modern chess variants as well (see
below for a complete listing). The
piece is still known under this name by composers of fairy
chess problems.

The camel is a
(1,3)-jumper. This means that it
reaches its destination square/cell by moving either
three cells horizontally and one vertically, or one square horizontally and
three vertically. The camel is a
jumping piece, meaning it can move to its destination cell whether the
intervening cells are occupied or not.
If the destination cell is occupied by an enemy piece,
then it captures that piece.
